The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on Tuesday banned two Kenyan marathoners for anti-doping rule violations.

Daniel Muindi was banned for three years, from July 10, following the presence of the prohibited substance Norandrosterone.

Judith Jerubet was banned for two years after she was found to have used Triamcinolone acetonide which is also banned by AIU.

Muindi’s case began in May 2024 when the 29-year-old provided a urine sample at the Lima Marathon held in Peru.

On June 27, the World Anti-Doping Agency laboratory lab in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil reported to AIU that the urine sample showed the presence of banned Norandrosterone

“On July 12, 2024, the AIU received an Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violations and Acceptance of Consequences Form signed by the athlete,” a statement of AIU read in part.

His results from May 19 have been cancelled with all resulting consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points, prizes and appearance money.

Jerubet provided a urine sample on March 24, before the Bank of China Wuhan Marathon in Wuhan, China.

“On April 18, 2024, the World Anti-Doping Agency accredited laboratory in Beijing, China, reported that the analysis of the sample had revealed the presence of Triamcinolone acetonide,” AIU reported.

After failing to respond to multiple requests to respond to a Notice of Charge the AIU concluded that the Athlete had committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation.

“The AIU has no evidence that the Anti-Doping Rule Violation was intentional and the period of ineligibility to be imposed is therefore a period of two years,” the Athletics body stated.
