Kisumu county government is in the home stretch of the 9th Edition of the Kenya inter-county sports and cultural association (Kicosca) games scheduled for January 15-21, 2023.
The county executive for sports Beatrice Odongo confirmed that all the arrangements are on course to ensure the success of the event.
Odongo called on collaboration between the KICOSCA National Executive Council(NEC) and the local committee as the preparation continues.
This week, Kisumu played host to a series of consultative meetings in preparation for the 9th edition of the games.
The Kicosca NEC, which brought together representatives from various county governments, held a 4-day meeting to spearhead plans towards the Inter-county games.
The preparations include the identification of sporting amenities and accommodation as well as making decisions on documentation requirements for the players.
To date, 30 counties have confirmed participation in the 9th edition of the games after a one-year break.
The participating counties have also been urged to prepare adequately for the games.
However, the local committee led by county secretary John Auma held a similar meeting with planned visits to the venues.
More than 8,000 participants are expected to attend the Kicosca games in the lakeside city.
Governor Anyang Nyong’o has received the chain, a symbol of authority and power to undertake the role of a patron.
Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, the outgoing Kicosca patron officially handed over the chain to Nyong’o at Mama Grace Onyango Social Hall in October.
The games previously known as Kenya Inter-Municipal Sports and Cultural Association (KIMSCA) under the defunct local authorities aim at providing an avenue for county staff to interact and compete in the spirit of ‘friendly rivalry.’
Nyong’o said they have identified the venues and facilities that will offer accommodation to the participants.
He assured participants that Kisumu is ready to host the event with a committee already constituted to steer preparations and deliver a successful event.
“We are ready for the games and a committee working on the preparations has strict deadlines to ensure this will be the best game ever in the history of Kicosca,” Nyong’o said.
