Suspect in Mombasa blogger assault slapped with fresh charges! A man suspected of orchestrating the brutal assault of Mombasa blogger Bruce John Khajira, known as “Chawa-001,” is now facing additional charges of torture in a separate case.
The suspect, whose arrest has sparked widespread interest, was detained at the Lunga Lunga border on November 7 as he attempted to cross into Tanzania. Authorities are investigating multiple charges tied to this case and others, revealing a complex web of alleged criminal activity.
Arrest and Charges in Blogger Assault Case
The initial case against the suspect involves the September 12 abduction and sexual harassment of Khajira, a prominent blogger and outspoken figure in Mombasa.
On Tuesday, November 12, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya confirmed that the suspect had been arraigned at Shanzu Law Courts, where he faces charges of abduction, gang rape, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
This incident captured public attention due to its shocking nature and the apparent planning involved. DCI detectives established that the suspect had coordinated closely with accomplices before, during, and after the alleged attack.
Digital forensic analysis revealed his presence at both the primary and secondary locations of the crime, solidifying his connection to the incident. Separate Case of Torture in Mombasa
In addition to the blogger assault case, the DCI discovered that the accused had a record of prior alleged offenses. On August 15, 2024, four victims had reported the suspect to police at Mikindani police station, accusing him of torture and physical assault.
According to the DCI, the suspect, accompanied by several others, falsely claimed to be enforcing Mombasa County bylaws and used this pretense to detain and physically assault the complainants at the Mombasa County Inspectorate offices located in Tudor.
This separate case of alleged torture has now led to additional charges against the suspect. On Tuesday, he was formally charged with torture under Section 5 (1) of Kenya’s Prevention of Torture Act.
The suspect pleaded not guilty to the torture charges and was released on a bond of Sh500,000 or a cash bail of Sh200,000.
His connection to two separate violent cases has raised serious concerns about his activities and associations, prompting further investigations by authorities.

The DCI has confirmed that investigations in both cases are well advanced, and more arrests are expected as detectives continue to trace other alleged accomplices.
