3 suspects linked to Nairobi’s Westlands burglary arrested! In a significant breakthrough, detectives from the Kilimani Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested three suspects in connection with a high-profile burglary in Westlands, Nairobi.
The suspects, two women and a man, were apprehended in Kawangware, where they were hiding after allegedly stealing cash and valuables worth millions from a South Sudanese national residing along Rahpta Road, Westlands. This arrest marks a major step in solving a case that has been under investigation for more than a month.
The burglary occurred on September 24, 2023, when the homeowner returned to her residence to find it ransacked. The housekeeper, who had been left in charge of the house, was missing.
Additionally, the burglars had made off with USD 24,500 in cash, high-end electronics, including an iPhone 15 and a Samsung Z Flip, as well as several valuable pieces of jewelry. The theft was immediately reported to the DCI, prompting a swift and thorough investigation.
According to police reports, forensic investigators were able to trace the suspects’ movements, leading them to their hideout in Kawangware. Upon raiding the location, detectives recovered a range of newly acquired items that are believed to have been purchased using proceeds from the burglary.
Among the recovered goods were high-value items such as a Boxer motorcycle, a 55-inch Vitron TV, a Hanmac microwave, an HP laptop, an NNix cooker oven, and a 6kg Pro gas cylinder.
In a statement released by the DCI, they confirmed the successful recovery of these items: “Detectives seized several high-value items believed to have been purchased with proceeds from the crime.”
The list of recovered goods also included a five-seater sofa, a mattress, two watches, and three brand-new Samsung A50 phones. Additionally, an agreement for the purchase of a parcel of land valued at KSh423,000 in Kapkangani, Nandi County, was found in possession of the suspects and is now under further investigation.
As the suspects remain in custody, authorities are continuing their search for possible accomplices who may have been involved in the planning and execution of the crime. Investigators are also working to recover any remaining stolen items that have not yet been accounted for.
This successful operation highlights the effectiveness of the DCI in tracking down individuals involved in serious crimes through forensic evidence and investigative intelligence. The case has attracted significant attention due to the high value of the stolen goods and the prominence of the victim involved.
In a separate but related incident, DCI detectives also arrested three other individuals connected to a series of incidents involving the stupefying and robbing of revelers in Nairobi.
The suspects, two men and one woman, were captured following a tip-off received through the “Fichua Kwa DCI” hotline. A victim had reported being drugged, robbed, and having money withdrawn from his M-Pesa account after losing consciousness.
According to the DCI, the suspects involved in this case had been targeting unsuspecting partygoers, drugging them before stealing their money and other valuables. Following the report, DCI investigators swiftly acted on the lead, resulting in the capture of the three suspects.
The DCI stated, “The arrests were made following a tip-off received through the Fichua Kwa DCI hotline, where a victim reported being drugged, robbed, and having money withdrawn from his M-Pesa account.”
The arrested individuals are currently in lawful custody, awaiting arraignment in court on charges of robbery and drugging. The authorities have assured the public that further investigations are ongoing to determine if these suspects were part of a larger criminal network that has been operating in Nairobi’s nightlife scene.
The swift response and successful apprehension of these suspects demonstrate the importance of public cooperation in reporting crimes. The DCI continues to encourage members of the public to use the Fichua Kwa DCI hotline to report any suspicious activities or crimes, assuring them that their information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and acted upon promptly.
Both these cases underscore the commitment of Kenyan law enforcement to ensuring the safety of its citizens and bringing perpetrators of crime to justice.
