Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Everton

Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Everton. Son Heung-min scored twice as Tottenham secured their first Premier League win of the season with a convincing 3-0 victory over a lackluster Everton side.

From the outset, Tottenham dominated, and their early pressure quickly paid off. A slick build-up on the edge of the area saw Dejan Kulusevski set up Yves Bissouma, whose shot ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar and into the net.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a costly error shortly after when Son seized the ball from him and calmly slotted it into an empty net.

In the second half, Cristian Romero added a third for Spurs with a powerful header from a corner. He outmuscled James Tarkowski and Michael Keane to connect with James Maddison’s precise delivery.

Son rounded off the scoring 13 minutes before the end, finishing a low, angled shot through Pickford’s legs after a dynamic run from Micky van de Ven from one penalty area to the other.

Everton’s attack was largely ineffectual, with their only notable chance coming from Jesper Lindstrom, whose shot was well saved by Guglielmo Vicario.

While Son’s two goals were the standout story, another key narrative was Yves Bissouma’s performance. The Mali midfielder had recently faced criticism and a club ban for posting a video of himself using laughing gas, a substance now illegal in the UK for recreational use.

With Rodrigo Bentancur injured, it was a surprise to see Bissouma included in the squad so soon after the incident. However, under Ange Postecoglou’s guidance, Bissouma delivered a disciplined performance and scored his first Tottenham goal in his 52nd Premier League appearance.

His celebration, pointing to his temples and bowing, seemed to convey a message of renewed focus and a plea for forgiveness. Postecoglou’s approach appears to have motivated Bissouma, signaling a potential turnaround.

Despite Sean Dyche’s switch from his usual suit and tie to a tracksuit, Everton’s fortunes did not improve. After a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brighton in their opener, this latest loss at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium raises serious concerns.

Everton fans began leaving well before the final whistle, reflecting the growing frustration. The team’s defensive frailties were evident, with familiar faces in the backline failing to stem the tide of Tottenham’s attack.

Historically, Everton have struggled in August, failing to win a top-flight game in the month for the past three seasons. Dyche and his team will need to regroup quickly as they face Bournemouth next Saturday, hoping to secure a crucial win to kickstart their season.
