Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Thursday joined Indian High Commissioner Namgya Khampa in growing 3,000 bamboo trees at City Park, Nairobi.
The exercise was done to mark India’s 78th Independence Day.
Duale was accompanied by Forestry PS Gitonga Mugambi at the event organized by the Earth Keepers Foundation.
Also present were UN Resident Coordinator Stephen Jackson, NEMA DG Mamo Mamo, and Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko among other dignitaries.
The exercise will help spur the government’s campaign to plant 15 billion trees in 10 years from 2022 in a bid to reach 30 per cent tree cover in the country.
The campaign aims at reducing greenhouse emissions, stopping, and reversing deforestation.
