Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has commended the youth in the county for holding peaceful protests on Tuesday.

The county boss noted that the Gen Zs held demonstrations on the streets of Bungoma town without looting or vandalising property.

“I want to thank youth in Bungoma who also joined their counterparts in other parts of the country for protests but they did not destroy property,” he said.

The governor asked the youth never to destroy public or private property during future demonstrations.

“Run on along the road if you so wish but do not interfere with activities or properties of other people,” he said.

“I beg you, even if you want to demonstrate, do it but do not destroy property. What we have put up should not be destroyed.”

Business came to a standstill for the better part of Tuesday in various parts of the country as demonstrators took to the streets in anti-government protests.

In Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisii, Machakos, Kisumu, and Nakuru, protesters paralysed activities as businesses closed over fears of destruction.

There were fears of a repeat of the looting that occurred during demonstrations when protesters stormed into Parliament.

Police hurled tear gas canisters to break up protesters.

Demonstrators blocked major roads including the highway to Namanga where they lit bonfires.

The protests five days after President William Ruto dismissed the Cabinet save for the Prime CS.
