Protesters cheer KDF as they patrol Nairobi CBD

KDF deployment

Protesters in Nairobi on Thursday cheered the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers as they made their way into the Nairobi Central Business District.

In videos seen by the Star, KDF officers who were aboard their vehicles made their way through Tom Mboya Street where they met the protesters.

They then started cheering as they escorted the officers who were on patrol.

The protesters are also heard chanting anti President William Ruto slogans.

The KDF officers have been patrolling the City since Thursday morning.

A heavy contingent of KDF officers was Thursday spotted inside Nyayo Stadium.

Also seen was an armoured KDF vehicle.

The KDF officers were seen taking briefs from their seniors before deployment.

They were later spotted leaving the Stadium apparently to their specific areas of deployment.

Members of Parliament on Wednesday morning approved the deployment of Kenya Defence Forces officers within the country to restore order after deadly protests.

The soldiers will support the Kenya Police Service to restore normalcy across the country after anti-Finance Bill protests turned tragic on Tuesday.

Police on Thursday were forced to disperse some protesters that were already gathering in Nairobi’s CBD.

White smoke was seen along the Muindi Bingu streets as some demonstrators scampered for safety.

One protester was seen daring the police as he chest thumped in front of them at the Central Business District.
