Protesting youth on Monday stormed a public function in Malava in search of area MP Malulu Injendi.
The function had been organized by Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda at Kakoyi to distribute water tanks to schools.
The youth however took over the function, demanding that the legislator doesn’t leave if he was present.
“We are sending you Mama County to tell Malulu to resign from leadership following his yes vote on the Finance Bill,” one of them shouted.
The youth had been protesting peacefully against the Finance Bill 2024/25 in Malava town before they walked into the function.
It took the intervention by Muhanda to cool the youth down after assuring them that Malulu was not in the function.
They then agreed to leave and continue with their protests.
“I am impressed that President William Ruto has accepted to hold talks with the youth,” Muhanda said.
Seven out of the 13 MPs from Kakamega County voted in support of the bill during its second reading on Thursday.
On Saturday, Malulu was forced to cut short his speech and flee from angry youth at Musingu village in the constituency.
The youth had confronted him for supporting the controversial bill.
A youth identified only as Brown shot up and asked Malulu to explain to the people of Malava what was in the bill that would benefit the residents to warrant his support for the document.
It was at this point that youth who had accompanied the MP tried to attack Brown but the public joined in and were overpowered forcing Malulu to flee.
