President Ruto hosts Iftar Dinner at State House, Nairobi

President William Ruto on Monday evening hosted Muslim leaders for the Iftar Dinner at State House, Nairobi.

Iftar is the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan.

The event began around 7pm as reports indicated that the Muslim community would celebrate Eid Al Fitr on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

This after the crescent Moon was reported not sighted in Saudi Arabia.

Sighting of the crescent Moon marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar month.

An Islamic month can have either 29 or 30 days depending on when the new crescent Moon is first visible.

But just as sunset and sunrise, the new crescent visibility varies worldwide so not everyone is able to see it at the same time or even on the same day.

This variation can lead to some countries marking Ramadan and Eid on different dates.
