Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s close associate Omar Boga has been kicked out as the Coast Water Works Development Agency board chairman a year before the lapse of his contract.
In a Gazette notice dated February 1, President William Ruto has revoked his appointment which was to end next year and named Daniel Katama Mwaringa to replace him.
He has also appointed Hafswa Abdalla Dele, Judith Wabosha Mwamburi, and Mohamed Masoud Mwahima as members of the board whose tenure in office will run until July 25, 2024.
Boga who lost the Msambweni by-election in December 2020 to Feisal Bader was appointed on February 26, 2021, to head the body for a three-year term.
He previously served as the MCA for Bongwe/Gombato ward.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 66 (1) (a) and (b) of the Water Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint- Daniel Katama Mwaringa, as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Coast Water Works Development Agency,” reads the notice.
His appointment takes effect immediately and will run until February 25, 2024.
Boga exits alongside, Col (Rtd.) Hussein Ahmed, Rehana Ismail, Abdul Timimi, and Joseph Charo.
At the same time, Water Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has also revoked the appointment of Macharia Kariuki, Livingstone Indiete, Hesbon Odumbe, and Edward Kobuthi as board members of the Water Services Regulatory Board (WSRB).
