Government working on bettering domestic workers’ lives, says Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa says regulatory changes will soon improve the wages and working conditions of domestic workers.

Speaking at a Cosatu event, Ramaphosa cited a 26 percent decline in the employment of domestic workers in the first half of last year. Ramaphosa warned against the exploitation of domestic workers.

He says wage adjustments will see their salaries aligned with the general minimum wage from next year.

Domestic workers are entitled to a minimum wage of R19.09 per hour while the minimum wage in South Africa is R21.06 per hour.
