The trial against former EC MEC Sindiswa Gomba and 13 others is set to begin on Tuesday in the East London Magistrates Court. The accused face an array of charges including fraud and money laundering.
The case relates to the misappropriation of funds meant to be used for the funeral of late former President Nelson Mandela in 2013.
They are accused of misleading the Buffalo City Metro into believing it was responsible for the financial cost of transporting mourners to various venues where memorial services were to be held.
