Police in Athi River, Machakos County are investigating an incident where a two–year–old girl was allegedly stolen in Slota estate within Athi River Township on Wednesday.
Athi River South subcounty police commander Philis Muthoni said the minor was reportedly picked up by unknown persons while on the road near her mother’s rented house within the estate at around 1.00 pm on Wednesday.
Muthoni said the matter was reported to the Athi River police station by the child’s mother on the same day.
“The child’s mother reported that she was kidnapped by unknown people while in the company of her brother aged three years,” Muthoni said.
She spoke to the Star at her office in Athi River on Thursday.
Muthoni said those who kidnapped the girl had a car of Subaru make.
“The one who reported said she was at a saloon when the incident happened,” Muthoni said.
The police chief said the child was still missing by press time.
“There is no trace of the child yet, police are on the ground pursuing the matter. The case is being handled by the DCI,” Muthoni said.
