Detectives have launched a manhunt for the killers of an 87-year-old woman in Lungalunga, Kwale county.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said on Monday the lifeless body of the old lady was found on Sunday in her bed at Mwololo village.
He said the heinous crime was committed by a robber (s) who invaded the woman’s home to steal a goat.
“In the abominable incident reported by the village chairperson, the elderly woman was found lying dead on her bed with multiple cuts suspected to have been inflicted by a machete, and her only goat stolen by yet-to-be-identified violent robbers,” the DCI said.
He said detectives based at Lungalunga have since taken over investigations.
The DCI director said the officers are working in collaboration with authorities in the Mwereni location to comb the area in pursuit of the killers.

On July 4, the DCI reported the arrest of a female suspect linked to the murder of a woman in Kalimani village, Kathunguni subcounty, Kitui county.
Lucy Kambu Mwenda was murdered on May 22, 2024.
The DCI said the deceased’s lifeless body was discovered lying in a pool of blood outside her property’s perimeter fence.
She had been stabbed twice in the back of her head. A blood-stained machete believed to be the murder weapon was found at the scene.
“After days of intelligence gathering and analysis, officers embarked on a scrupulous pursuit for the main suspect. Their efforts paid off when the suspect, travelling aboard a white canter truck from Mombasa to Nairobi landed in their dragnet,” the DCI said in a statement.
The suspect was arraigned at the Kitui Law Courts before being remanded at Kitui GK Prison.
“The case is slated for mention and possible plea-taking on July 23, 2024,” the DCI said.
