Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has told off Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah after he alleged being denied the chance to speak on Tuesday.

According to Cheruiyot, all senators who were scheduled to speak were given a chance to do so.

He went on to say the motion in question is still on later on Wednesday, and he will get the time to make his remarks.

“Every senator who has queued to speak has had the chance. The motion is still alive on the floor and scheduled even for this afternoon,” Cheruiyot said.

Omtatah in a post on X, claimed he had been denied a chance to speak on the State of the Nation debate.

The Busia senator said that he has been asking for the chance for over a week, but has not been allowed to speak.

The motion is about the recent demonstration that have hit the country over dissatisfaction with the Finance Bill, 2024.

“I was today denied an opportunity to speak to the State of the Nation motion currently being debated in the Senate about demonstrations in Kenya, even after having requested the microphone since last week Wednesday,” Omtatah said.

The State of the Nation motion is sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot.
