Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua now says that the fresh dialogue calls by President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga is a trap.
In a statement on Tuesday, Karua whose remarks came shortly after the announcement said that any dialogue can only be meaningful if all players have goodwill.
She said that the players must also be guided by the best interests of the people of Kenya.
“Dialogue can only be meaningful if the players have good faith and are guided by the best interests of the people.
“This is a trap period,” Karua said.
Her remarks come after the President and the former Prime Minister agreed to commence a six-day multi-sectorial forum.
The forum, set to begin on Monday, July 15 and conclude on Saturday, will foster national dialogue and seek lasting solutions to Kenya’s pressing issues.
President Ruto emphasised the importance of the forum stating that it will propose the way forward for the country.
“This forum will begin on Monday, next week and end on Saturday next week, it will be a 6-day forum and will propose the way forward for the country,” Ruto said
“We’ve agreed that a dialogue is the way forward out of the crisis we’re having in our country,” Raila added.
The ODM leader reiterated the importance of the forum, saying that it will give Kenyans a chance to be heard.
“We have agreed that we give people an opportunity to be heard, to express themselves so that a lasting solution can be found,” he said.
Raila said all attendees are expected to bear their costs.
“In the interest of making sure we live within our means; all participants will bear their attendance costs. This is a result of consultations we have held this morning,” he said.
