Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Tuesday emphasized the need to listen to the dissenting voices of the youth.
Speaking during the signing of the IEBC Bill, Kalonzo warned of the growing influence of Generation Z.
He emphasised the need for the current leadership and older generations to recognise and adapt to the aspirations and perspectives of the youth.
“If we are not careful, all of us will get thrown out by Gen Z because they say we have come of age, you say that we are leaders of tomorrow, we are leaders now,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo said the country is at crossroads and called for a fresh round of dialogue so that underlying issues facing Kenyans can be fully addressed.
He said in light of the recent protests by the youth (Gen Zs), it was evident that there are many critical issues still affecting the citizens.
“They came in the form of Gen Z but they are Kenyans, in fact they are carrying the national flags, they have done it better than we did,” Kalonzo said.
“Mr President I want to urge that we look at our country afresh, there is no way we can wish away the Gen Z revolution and if we were to begin to be honest with ourselves perhaps we need to go back to Bomas.”
President William Ruto on Tuesday signed into law the IEBC (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
Azimio leaders Raila Odinga, National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula among other leaders were also present.
The bill passed by Parliament is based on the recommendations of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
