One protester has died in Kisii county after sustaining injuries during the Tuesday protests against the Finance Bill 2024.
Doctors at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital said he suffered head injuries during the Tuesday fracas.
At least three more others sustained gunshot injuries.
Police were foiling break-in attempts at various residences and business premises.
Two suffered gunshot injuries to the thigh.
They are still being attended to at the facility, KTRH boss Dr Oimeke Marita told the Star.
Oimeke said one police officer suffered bruises after protesters cornered him with stones as the officer walked past the agitator near Hospital Round About.
An elderly person, 78, a passerby reported fractures in the hands.
By early Wednesday the scale of destruction around Kisii was evident.
Around the County capital, dark ash from burnt tyres was all over the streets as traders woke up to return to business.
At Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda’s residence, the outlier gate was destroyed.
A door in the residence had a hole, the aftermath of an agitated stone thrower before police guarding the premise repulsed them.
An aide to the legislator denounced reports appearing in a section of the local media that the residence was set ablaze.
“There is nothing of the sort, everything is secure but for one stone which hit a glass at the exterior door,” he told the Star on condition of anonymity.
By Wednesday, officers from the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit were arriving to reinforce security ahead of an anticipated round of protests on Thursday.
At the Kisii Central Police Station, the Star counted four points along a fence where a fire was lit up by the protesters who wanted to gain entry to the police residences.
A section of the fence was, however, brought down and by Wednesday there had been no repair work going on.
There were reported attempts by some of the youthful protesters of the Gen Z to go to Majority Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro’s residence in Kisii but a team of GSU officers guarding critical installations in town blocked their advances.
They however managed, to light a few old tyres on the pathway.
