Famous social media activist Gabriel Oguda found after alleged abduction

Gabriel Oguda

Popular social media and political activist Gabriel Oguda has been found after he was allegedly abducted over the anti-Finance Bill protests.

He was among at least ten people who were rounded up on Tuesday, June 25.

In a video seen by the Star, Oguda was found at the Kajiado police station but is yet to be released.

“Ambia wasee niko sawa (Tell guys that I am okay),” he says to the camera.

Oguda is seen alongside some of his friends and brother who have been looking for him.

The has been trending on the hashtag #FreeOguda just like it has been for all other influencers who have been abducted and detained arbitrarily for their roles in mobilizing the public to join the demos.

According to his brother, Zachary Oguda, he found the officers who had his brother at Kajiado Town and they went to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) holding area.

“I’ve cornered these guys at Kajiado town with their team. They’ve branched at the ODPP holding area near the Kajiado County Assembly and I’m not leaving here without my brother. Spread the word,” he wrote on X.

According to National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, Oguda who also works at his office as an analyst called him at 2 am on the wee hours of Tuesday morning, informing him of police officers breaking into his compound.

According to Wandayi, no sooner had Oguda called him than his phone was jammed, and was unable to make calls until 6:30 am on Tuesday.

“Oguda called me to inform me that there were people at his gate who were breaking into his compound. I mobilized lawyers to attend to his situation but within no minute my phone calls were jammed and I was unable to call or receive calls until 6.30 am this morning,” Wandayi said

Wandayi said the people who allegedly abducted Oguda are not known whether they are police officers or not.

“We have looked at the police stations in Nairobi, he is nowhere, we don’t know whether he has been killed or he is being held somewhere,” Wandayi said.

The MP termed the alleged arrest as unfortunate at a time when the officer was expected to facilitate his office with policy analysis.
