Police in Ndhiwa are looking for people who killed a 17-year-old girl after she went missing for seven days in Ratanga market, Kwabwai ward.

The girl Mercy Akinyi was found by residents of Ogwenyore A village on Saturday.

Akinyi was reported missing on May 17 after attending a sports tournament in Apuoche in West Kwabwai Location.

Central Kwabwai Location Chief George Olango said the girl was training to be a salonist at Ratanga Trading Centre.

Investigators have yet to establish the circumstances that led to her death.

Speaking on Monday over the matter, Olango said he first got information that the head of a human was discovered within the village.

The head had started decomposing.

They identified the head as that of Akinyi.

Olango said there were signs that vultures had started feeding on that part of the body.

“We later on Saturday discovered the body of the girl. The body was also decomposing as well,” Olang’o said.

Olang’o said they have reported the matter to the police for further investigations.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Samson Kinne said investigations had been launched into the matter.

They asked residents with more information about the incident to report it to them and aid in the arrest of the suspects.

Kinne said they will take legal action upon completion of the investigations.

The body parts were taken to Manyatta mortuary in Kobody trading centre.

The police together with the family will undertake a postmortem to reveal the cause of death.

“We’re going on with investigations into the matter to ensure justice is provided to the family. Suspects must be brought to book and we ask residents for more information on the whereabouts of the perpetrators,” Kinne said.
