Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has directed that the good standards of Wanini Kireri Magezera Level IV Hospital must be maintained at all times.

Speaking when the facility was handed to his ministry by the Kenya Defence Forces, Kindiki directed Correctional Services PS Salome Muhia and Prisons Commissioner General, Brigadier (Rtd) John Kibaso to ensure this.

He said the hospital currently has state-of-the-art equipment and more will be added in the coming days.

“I want to underscore the need for us to maintain good standards. I have already directed PS Salome and Commissioner G Prisons to ensure we do not compromise on the quality standards, including cleanliness that we have seen here.

“We have state-of-the-art medical equipment and we want to put in more equipment and the building and facilities look great,” Kindiki said.

He, however, noted that in Kenya we still struggle with the challenge of maintaining public institutions.

Kindiki said this is one area Kenyans have not gotten it right in many years.

He added that the PS and Commissioner General must ensure the standards remain the same as they are now.

He said that it is easier to spend some money to maintain worn out areas compared to waiting until is it completely dilapidated, which would be costly.

“There’s something we have not gotten right as a country and that is how to manage public institutions and public facilities that are clean and of good quality and if you are asked the difference between a public and private hospital, the difference is one, cleanliness and standards and maybe how we treat people who come for services,” Kindiki said.

“We must work towards maintaining those standards. The facilities must remain in the quality they are in,” he added.

The CS said that they will also be looking a possible ways to ensure the community around Ruiru can also get services from the Hospital.
