Opposition leader Raila Odinga has called for speedy probe into the cause of the chopper crash which killed Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla.

Raila in a statement on Friday urged the government to expedite the probe into the cause of the accident.

Raila raised concerns about the state of helicopters and other equipment being used by the security officers.

“Many near death encounters have occurred with the security aircrafts. We may never know what exactly brought down the helicopter in which the general died,” Raila said.

“It is our prayer that this tragedy may mark the beginning of a serious relook into our security equipment, especially the aircrafts with a view to undertaking a complete overhaul and modernization of the equipment. That was the General’s vision,” he added.

According to Raila, the government owes Kenyans thorough, professional, and transparent investigations into the deaths.

He said “only such an investigation will put the family and the whole nation at peace”.

This is even as Raila led a section of Azimio leaders to pay a visit family of Ogolla at his Ng’iya home in Siaya to express his condolences and support.

Raila was accompanied by several other Azimio leaders who included Martha Karua (Narc-K) Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Wycliffe Oparanya, Mwangi Wa Iria, James Orengo among elected leaders.

Their visit was seen as a gesture of solidarity and respect for the life and legacy of the Ogolla.

“General Ogolla devoted his life to serving this country, from the day he graduated. through multiple tours of duty, and ultimately as the top soldier in KDF,” he said in a statement.

Ogolla met his death Thursday afternoon alongside nine other military officers in a chopper crash in Marakwet East.

He is set to be laid rest on April 21.
