Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has extended the dusk-to-dawn curfew in the Chakama Ranch area by 30 days even as reports indicated some victims had refused to eat.

“Sadly, we lost one victim who was rescued from Shakahola after refusing to eat… Most victims are refusing to eat,” he said.

Speaking on Thursday in Malindi, Kindiki also extended all the other measures he had issued on April 26, 2023.

“All the measures gazetted on Chakama Ranch have been extended by another 30 days. The extended orders include the 6 pm to 6 am curfew,” he added.

This means that there shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement either alone or as a group during the period of curfew into and out of Chakama Ranch.

The only movement which will be allowed, according to Kindiki, will be permitted, in writing, by the Kilifi county police commander in consultation with the operation commander.

The CS also announced that the area remains a crime scene and out of bounds for every unauthorized person.

The area measuring 20, 418 hectares and situated in Lango Baya division, Malindi subcounty, Kilifi was on Tuesday declared a disturbed area by the CS.
