There’s division over the renaming of Brandfort in the Free State to Winnie Mandela. The name change has been gazetted, but the official ceremony has been put on hold.
The DA plans to object over a lack of public participation. Mandela was banished to the town from 1977 to 1985.
The provincial government says this matter is in the hands of a national government, which could not be reached for comment. The ANC, too, was unavailable.
