Chaos as two police officers are attacked by Kenya Defence Forces Officers… During a routine patrol near Waiyaki Way on Saturday morning, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers assaulted two police officers from Spring Valley Police Station in Westlands.

According to police reports the incident ensued when the police identified a suspicious character riding on a motorcycle in the wee hours of Saturday morning. The officers trailed the suspect along Kitisuru Road to Waiyaki Way and managed to intercept him near Red Hill/Waiyaki Way roundabout.

While they were still interrogating the suspect, three military personnel manning Kabete Barracks approached the roundabout and demanded that the suspect be released.

The two cops introduced themselves and stated the reasons for stopping the suspect but their request was not heeded as the KDF officers assaulted one of the officers. He sustained injuries on the right leg below the knee.

Kenya Defence Forces Came in Numbers

Following the altercation, military officers came in large numbers as backup and overpowered the two officers, rescuing the suspect in the process. According to the report, the individual rode on his motorcycle with the KDF officers into Kabete Barracks.

Moments later, officers from Gigiri rushed to the scene to restore order. The injured officer was rushed to South B Hospital for treatment.  At the scene, the Gigiri police officers and the KDF personnel agreed not to pursue the individual to avoid further chaos.

“The suspect with his motorcycle was left at Kabete Barracks to avoid further confrontation,” read part of the police report.

The incident marks the latest fallout involving KDF and police officers in the past months. Last month, a soldier reportedly stormed a police station, attacked police officers, and managed to set a prisoner free. In a separate incident, a video went viral in Mombasa showing a contingent of military officers engaging in a scuffle with police officers at the Likoni Ferry.
