President Uhuru Kenyatta has made a plea to financial institutions within the World Bank Group regarding his legacy projects.
In a statement released by State House after a meeting with International Finance Corporation (IFC) Managing Director, Makhtar Diop, on Tuesday, February 1, Uhuru asked the institutions to support the Big Four Agenda project being implemented across the country.
The Head of State expressed that the provision of financial aid to private institutions in the country would help him implement his legacy projects.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and other World Bank constituent financial institutions to provide more support to the private sector to spur Kenya’s economic growth.
“The President said IFC has the potential to help in making Kenya a lucrative investment hub through supporting the private sector in implementing the Government’s Big Four Agenda,” read the statement in part.
In the meeting, the Head of State noted that his administration had already partnered with the private sector in implementing some of his legacy projects.
“We believe there is still a role that you can play in enabling the private sector to participate more in support of our provision of affordable housing, universal healthcare, food security, and manufacturing through Public-Private Partnerships.
“Kenya has the potential to accelerate its economic growth and I am confident that with your partnership we can achieve that goal,” Uhuru stated.
During the meeting, the president noted that the government had managed to attract investors to the country further promising to oversee the reduction of the cost of electricity.
On his part, Diop stated that they would meet with various stakeholders in the country to ensure that the Universal Health Care (UHC) and Affordable Housing projects are successfully implemented.
“I will have roundtable discussions with stakeholders in the pharmaceuticals and housing sectors to see how best we can collaborate to ensure the realisation of affordable healthcare and housing for the Kenyan people,” Diop stated.
Since his re-election in 2017, Uhuru has launched several projects across the country even as his term comes to an end in less than seven months.
