The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) grassroots leaders from Mombasa County are calling the party leader Raila Odinga to ensure no aspirants will be favoured during the party’s primaries.
Led by Mikindani Member of County Assembly (MCA) Juma Renson Thoya who also doubles as ODM Jomvu sub-county Chairperson alleged fear of a hatched plan to give some influential candidates direct ODM tickets.
Thoya called upon the Mombasa ODM secretariat office to make sure all grassroots nominations are free and fair that will accommodate all ODM aspirants.
The MCA urged the ODM party to give the certificates by merit to the candidates who win party nominations if they want the party to maintain its status quo in Mombasa County.
The MCA was addressing residents of Bangladesh in Mikindani informal settlement during an ODM grass root recruitment drive and party popularization.
Thoya said if the grassroots elections are not free and fair, some ODM royalists might be forced to decamp from the party.
During his ODM grass-roots meet-people-tour the MCA asked youth not to be used by politicians to cause violence during campaigns and after the election.
He said the youth have in the past fallen into the trap of politicians who used them to seek elective posts and later sidelined them after securing the seats.
The MCA also urged Mombasa residents, especially youths to turn out in large numbers during the second voter registration exercise expected to kick off next month in order to vote in the 2022 General Election and disregard propaganda that leads to voter apathy.
Addressing the same forum, Cyrus Matano who is a youth grass root leader from Ganahola informal settlement in Mikindani ward of Jomvu Constituency called on Raila Odinga to ensure the party primaries are free, fair and transparent to avoid defections.
