A senior sergeant of the Administration Police based in Siaya died in a house fire on Thursday morning.

Siaya county commissioner Mohammed Barre confirmed the death.

The county commissioner said it is not clear what caused the 8.40am inferno.

Barre said the fire brigade from Siaya county government was called in to put off the fire.

” We don’t know what happened. What we know for now is that one of our officers died in the house fire incident,” he said.

He said that police officers were combing the scene for clues.

” They will tell us what happened, including what might have caused the fire, ” he said.

According to Siaya Central sub-county police commander Benedict Mwangangi, the officer was alone in the house at the time of the incident.

The OCPD told the Star that the entire house which is located within the Siaya AP lines was consumed by the inferno.

” His colleagues, however, managed to remove their household goods before the fire could spread to the adjacent units, ” he said.

“His colleagues who rushed to the scene found him already dead. His remains have been taken to the county referral hospital in Siaya town.”

Family members will be notified first before the name of the cop is released.
