A man who posed as a police officer with an intention to defraud has been sentenced to two years in jail.
Josphat Rotich pleaded guilty before senior principal magistrate Phillip Mutua. The court ordered that he serve two years in jail or pay a fine of Sh200,000. He has 14 days to appeal.
Rotich committed the offence on August 8 in Kawangware Msalaba, Nairobi. The prosecution said the accused was arrested with some police uniforms and handcuffs stashed in his pockets.
The prosecution said that at around 11 am on the said day, police officers on patrol came across the accused person, who looked suspicious. They stopped him, but he took off. The officers following in hot pursuit and nabbed him.
He was asked to identify himself and he said he was a police constable attached to Muthangari police station. He was taken to the police station for booking and further interrogations before he was arraigned.
