Body of Police officer Caroline Kangogo arrive for a post-mortem

Caroline Kangogo

The body of police officer Caroline Kangogo has this morning been moved to the Moi Teaching Referral Hospital funeral home for an autopsy. Kangongo’s body left Iten County Referral Hospital mortuary just moments ago, en route to Eldoret. The post-mortem examination which was to be conducted last week was postponed at the last minute.

Government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor will lead the examination process, as authorities seek to establish the cause and the manner in which she died.
Last week, Kangogo’s family announced that it will set a new burial date for their daughter once the post-mortem was concluded.

Plans were already in motion to bury her last Saturday at her parents’ farm in Anin, Keiyo North Sub-county, but which failed to take place after a seeming stand-off. On Friday her parents, relatives and friends camped at the funeral home into the night pleading for the body to be released for burial.

The family attempted to storm inside and forcibly remove the body, blaming the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) for the failed autopsy.

“I am just asking for the body of my daughter to be released. It is shocking that on Tuesday, the DCI informed us to plan for Saturday burial since the autopsy will be conducted on the eve of the funeral,” said Barnaba Korir.
