Man arrested for wearing female clothes in Lamu

Police officers, on the night of Saturday, July 17, arrested a man who was found donning female clothes at the Bajuri area in Lamu Island.

In his defense on why he was walking at night despite curfew orders, the man identified as Wahome told police he was working on a pair of wings and further perfecting his flying skills.

According to a video shared by Nation, the 35-year-old said the wings were part of his research project that had been okayed by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.

He added that he started creating the wings at his workshop in Lamu in January 2020 under the guidance of Abdalla Mwenye Mandevu and had visited Bajuri to test them.

Female clothes Wahome was donning a bui bui and when he was asked to undress by the police, he was discovered to be wearing a bra and women’s underpants.

Upon interrogation by harsh police officers on why he was doing the ‘project’ under the disguise as a lady, Wahome said the research and his dressing style were unrelated. He said donning women’s clothes was part of his culture and a habit which he started at the age of nine years.

The unsatisfied police officers suspected that he was gay and booked him in the cell for further questioning by the multi-agency team.
