Covid has hit one of Kenya’s most popular boy band, Sauti Sol. The band’s lead singer Bien-Aime Alusa Baraza tested positive for the virus last week just days before their big concert in Uganda.
The band had been advocating for preventing measures. On their YouTube show Sol Family, they have shown how they continuously educate themselves on the virus together with their signees Nvirii and Bensol.
They have been getting regular tests and isolating themselves but unfortunately the virus lured its way in.
Speaking to a local publication, the artist stated that they had been scheduled for a performance in Uganda on Thursday last week.
Days before, he started having fever, joint aches and eye problems. He went for a medical check-up and that is when he got the results that he had contracted the virus.
For the last couple of days, I have been indoors. I started feeling weak and so I decided since I was travelling to Uganda, I needed the tests done before. Only for me to test positive.
He has since been in quarantine. He continued by saying;
Having contracted the virus has put a strain on his finances. He protests of the expensive treatment bills he has had pay.
I feel the treatment is very expensive even for me. Our healthcare system has not cushioned us. So once it gets to you, you may end up spending too much from your pockets. It could be worse since it could even kill you.
The vocalist is certain that everyone is at risk and advocates for preventive measures. He is said to be recovering well.
