Tom Hardy has been cast to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond

Although not yet officially confirmed, the Venom and Peaky Blinders star has quickly become the rumoured favourite since auditioning back in June. The actor, 43, has been one of the favourites to become the next 007 in recent years, and rumours have been circulating he will step into Craig’s shoes after his fifth and final film, No Time To Die.

Hardy is one of several well-known actors who auditioned for the role, others of which include Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, Richard Madden, and Outlander’s Sam Heughan. All these actors, as well as several others, have been linked to playing the new James Bond after Daniel Craig spoke about leaving the role after Spectre.

In October 2015, Daniel Craig told the press that he had no interest in playing James Bond again after the rigors of the shoot had left him exhausted.

His rather derogatory comments included him saying he would “rather slash his wrists” than even consider playing Her Majesty’s Finest ever again. However, he was obviously convinced to return as 007 for one last time for the 25th official Bond release, No Time To Die, and will play the famous MI5 agent for the final time.

The latest 007 movie finds James Bond enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica after leaving active service, however, his peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter, played by Jeffrey Wright from the CIA, turns up asking for help.

The film was due to be released in April 2020 but was postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. A tweet from the official 007 Twitter account announced that it is now “set to be released in UK cinemas on November 12, with worldwide release dates to follow, including the US launch on November 25, 2020.”

Pierce Brosnan, who played Bond between 1994 and 2005, told the Daily Mail he believed Hardy could play the British spy well.

“Daniel Craig has been an incredible Bond. He’s very physical, he looks lethal. You genuinely believe this is someone who could kill a man,” he said.

“He’s complained about doing the part because he’s put himself through a lot physically, but he will do the next movie, and then I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond.

“I’d be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it, that’s what makes Bond.”

While Hardy might be pegged to be the next Bond, an official announcement confirming who will take over from Daniel Craig as 007 is supposed to be due in November. So, we can only wait with bated breath to see who will take over the tuxedo and Walther PPK from Craig to become the MI5’s next assassin.
