Human-trafficking ring busted, 16 rescued

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have busted a human-trafficking ring, rescuing 16 aliens on the Marsabit-Isiolo highway.
The aliens who were aboard three vehicles were being trafficked by 6 suspects who are now in lawful custody.
The suspects have since been identified as: Abdi Majid Hassan, Abdirahman Hussein Abdi, Mohammed Ahmed, Jamal Ali, Somo Wario, Salad Huka, Adullahi Mohammed and Abbas Yusuf.
A Multi Agency team of officers has rescued 16 alliens who were being trafficked along Marsabit- Isiolo higway on board three vehicles.

The suspects will be arraigned in court to answer to charges of human trafficking.
The Counter-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2010 criminalized sex trafficking and labor trafficking and prescribed penalties of 15 years to life imprisonment, a fine of not less than 5 million Kenyan shillings or both.

A third suspect in the murder of Kelvin Omwenga- a Nairobi businessman- was arraigned in court on Thursday.
Detectives probing the murder asked the Nairobi court to detain Vatha Bahati- a Congolese national- as sleuths seek to establish his connection to the murder.
The suspect was however released on a Ksh.100,000 cash bail after defence lawyers opposed the application by the prosecution, saying two other suspects had already been charged with the murder. Learn more
