‘Stop hallucinating, Ruto is not vengeful’: Alfred Mutua to Fred Matiang’i

Foreign Affairs CS Alfred Mutua has lashed out at former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i over allegations that police raided his house to arrest him.

Mutua said that President William Ruto is not a vengeful man, asking Matiang’i and Azimio people to stop hallucinating.

“The president is not a man of petty politics, he won the elections and is now focused on developing the country”

“The issue is when some people lose elections, they go through stages including denial and refusing to accept defeat and hallucination too,” Mutua said.

He was speaking in Mombasa after visiting the Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training Programme at the Coast National Polytechnic.

The programme is a bilateral project funded by the government in partnership with the Canadian government.

Mutua said that he held a meeting with ambassadors from American and European countries earlier on Friday assuring them that Kenya is a country that respects the rule of law.

He challenged Matiang’i to produce evidence that shows police are baying to arrest him saying that the government had no interest in arresting him as he alleged.

“Let us understand him, he is going through the denial stages because it is astonishing that they had a battalion of about 200 lawyers yet none of them captured a single photo of the said police. By now, we could have seen a video or photo trending online,” Mutua said.

The CS added that the government had good plans for the universal healthcare programme, promising that they will ensure that Matiang’i and his ilk are treated before they continue hallucinating.

He further asked Kenyans to pray for them to accept defeat and move on.

“Don’t be shocked when you hear them do such things, they are still in denial that they were defeated even after chest thumping. Just pray for them,” he said.

Matiang’i alleged that his home in Karen, Nairobi, was raided by armed policemen Wednesday night.

He claimed that the police only retreated after the media and his battalion of lawyers arrived at the home.

The former CS has since obtained conservatory orders blocking his arrest by the State.

In an application he filed at the Nairobi High Court through lawyer Danstan Omari on Thursday, the court barred the police and other state agencies from arresting him.

Justice Kanyi Kimondo on Thursday granted Matiang’i a Sh200,000 personal bond. The case will be mentioned on February 23.

The government has, however, denied having any motives to arrest Matiang’i although the Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin said he is being probed.

The Inspector General of police Japhet Koome on Thursday denied claims his officers went to Matiang’i’s house in Karen.

He said he had checked and found no such operation was sanctioned.

“There is no officer under the National Police Service who was at the former CS home. We have checked and I can confirm that,” he said.

The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak also denied his officers were involved in the said attempted raid.

“We are not aware. Those, if any are not EACC officers. We have nothing against him,” he said.

It is alleged that the said officers arrived in two unmarked cars claiming they were from EACC and Asset Recovery Agency ARA officials too have denied they were at the home.

“Those could be imposters if any. We don’t conduct raids and searches at night,” said a senior ARA official.
