Manchester United Could Offer Sergio Romero to Aston Villa as Part of Jack Grealish Deal

Manchester United could offer Sergio Romero as makeweight in a deal to sign Aston Villa talisman Jack Grealish this summer.

United have long been interested in Grealish, who was Villa’s star man by some margin last season. No one registered a higher progressive dribbling distance in the Premier League and he also racked up 14 goal involvements for Dean Smith’s side.

Villa have placed a whopping £75m price tag on the midfielder but United have not given up hope of securing his signature. The Red Devils are believed to value the 24-year-old around the £55m mark and are already reported to have had a £45m plus add-ons offer rebuffed.

With negotiations at an impasse, United are willing to try a surprising new tactic, according to the Daily Mail (via the Metro). It is reported that the club will offer backup goalkeeper Romero to Villa, as part of a deal that would see Grealish go in the other direction.

Jack-GrealishThe Argentina stopper did not make a single Premier League appearance last season and was also dropped for United’s Europa League defeat to Sevilla, despite starting most other games in the competition. These disappointments has left Romero frustrated at his Old Trafford role, particularly with first choice keeper David de Gea enduring such a disappointing season.

This means the Argentine could be open to move to Villa Park who are on the lookout for a new number one. They attempted to poach Aaron Ramsdale from relegated Bournemouth, only for the Englishman to seal a return to boyhood club Sheffield United.

Widely considered to be the best number two in England. Romero is also attracting interest from Premier League newbies Leeds United, as well as Everton and Chelsea – who both suffered goalkeeping issues last year.
