Police to start arresting parents after 39 teens were arrested at a house party

39 teenagers were Tuesday evening arrested at a house party at Bondeni Estate in Muhoroni.

The teens were aged between 12 and 22 years according to Muhoroni Deputy Commissioner Erick Wanyonyi who confirmed the incident.

Wanyonyi also warned that police officers will now start arresting parents of minors, accusing them of negligence.

“If you cannot take care of your children, and they are arrested in parties during this time, you will also face the law,” Wanyonyi said.

On Tuesday, Health Ministry CAS Dr Rashid Aman noted that the recent infections were among young people.

“We need to make our message neutral…that this pandemic is a threat to everybody. Before we focused on the elderly but let’s emphasize that this disease is a threat to everybody.” He said,.

He urged the Kenyan youth to stop reckless behaviour to avoid spreading the virus at a time when Kenya has recorded 30,636 cases of the novel coronavirus.

The Word Health Organisation has also raised concerns; that the pandemic is being driven by people in their 20s, 30s and 40s, many of whom were unaware they were infected, posing a danger to vulnerable groups.

Kenyan policeWHO officials said this month the proportion of younger people among those infected had risen globally, putting at risk vulnerable sectors of the population worldwide, including the elderly and sick people in densely populated areas with weak health services.

“The epidemic is changing,” WHO Western Pacific regional director, Takeshi Kasai, told a virtual briefing.

“People in their 20s, 30s and 40s are increasingly driving the spread. Many are unaware they are infected.”

“This increases the risk of spillovers to the more vulnerable,” he added.

A surge in new cases has prompted some countries to re-impose curbs as companies race to find a vaccine for a virus that has battered economies, killed more than 770,000 people and infected nearly 22 million, according to a Reuters tally.
